Six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan is on the move.

It was reported on Saturday night that DeRozan was going to the Sacramento Kings as part of a three-way trade with the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski detailed the full trade on X (formerly Twitter).

“The Sacramento Kings are agreed on a sign-and-trade that will land DeMar DeRozan on a three-year deal, send Harrison Barnes to the San Antonio Spurs and Chris Duarte, two second-round picks and cash to the Chicago Bulls.”

Wojnarowski added later that “The Kings will also send the Spurs a * 2031 * unprotected pick swap.” The deal , meanwhile, is for three years at $74 million.

It’s not a surprise to see the Kings end up with DeRozan. Reports from earlier in the offseason indicated that there was an interest.

DeRozan will be 35 in August. With that, this trade certainly suggests that the Kings are in win-now mode. Still, he is joining a young core. The now-traded Harrison Barnes was Sacramento’s only starter in his 30s in the team’s Play-In Tournament loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. At 28, Domantas Sabonis is the Kings’ oldest returning scorer from the 2023-24 season.

DeRozan averaged 24 points, 5.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game with the Bulls last season. He shot 48% from the field, 33.3% on threes and 85.3% on free throws, bettering his career marks (46.9%/29.6%/84.1%) in all three categories.

Fans in Sacramento are already excited by the offense he’ll add to the lineup. DeRozan was in the building for a Summer League game at Golden 1 Center, his new home arena. The Sacramento fans gave DeRozan a rousing ovation.

The Kings went 46-36 during the 2023-24 season and finished the regular season as the No. 9 seed in the Western Conference. They defeated the Golden State Warriors in the first Play-In Tournament game but fell to the Pelicans in the next game, ending their season.
