    Sacramento-area cooling centers open as another heat wave hits the region

    (FOX40.COM) — A third heat wave this July has prompted Sacramento-area governments to activate cooling centers so that community members can escape the triple-digit temperatures.

    The record-breaking heat this month has already led to numerous interruptions to daily life in Northern California, with another several days forecast to reach above 100°F in this fourth week of July.

    Sacramento surpasses last year’s total of days with temperatures over 100°F

    Sacramento County

    Sacramento
    • North A Street Emergency Shelter, 1400 North A Street
    – July 22-25, 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

    • Outreach and Engagement Center, 3615 Auburn Blvd
    – July 19-26, open 24 hours a day and closing at 8 a.m. on July 26

    • Sam and Bonnie Pannell Center, 2450 Meadowview Road
    – July 22-26, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

    Citrus Heights
    • Citrus Heights Police Department Lobby, 6315 Fountain Square Drive
    – Open on days with temperatures above 100°F, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

    Elk Grove
    • Wackford Community Center, 9014 Bruceville Road
    – July 22-24, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. (pets allowed)

    Folsom
    • Folsom Library, 411 Stafford St.
    – July 23-24, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. (no pets)

    Rancho Cordova
    • City Hall, 2729 Prospect Park Drive
    – July 22-24, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. (no pets)

    San Joaquin County

    The county advises that 15 community centers and 17 libraries are available during regular operating hours as cooling centers when temperatures are over 100°F.
