Grass fire near Sacramento International Airport burns 300 acres 00:43

SACRAMENTO – One home was threatened as crews battled a grass fire that burned 300 acres near the Sacramento International Airport (SMF) on Monday.

The fire was burning off W. Elverta Road and Power Line Road, just north of the airport, and jumped a levee, the Sacramento Fire Department said.

When crews arrived, they found a small grass fire. But crews said the wind caused the fire to take off to 300 acres.

Firefighters mentioned the helicopter was limited to areas where it could drop water on the fire due to how close the fire was to the airport and flight path.

The one home was evacuated and saved from the flames.

SMF said it did not see any issues in its operations due to the fire.

It's unknown what started the fire and no injuries have been reported.
