Bobby Mesmer, the CEO of RMG Erectors & Constructors, LLC, has made headlines for transforming his company into a $4 billion empire. Once a race car driver, Mesmer’s journey from a struggling entrepreneur to the head of a $4 billion empire is a story of resilience and innovation.

    Overcoming Financial Setbacks with Innovation

In 2016, Bobby Mesmer faced a massive financial setback. “After being defrauded by my largest client, I found myself with a $3.5 million loss and no financial reserves,” Mesmer recounts. Instead of succumbing to the setback, Mesmer redefined his business strategy, shifting to pre-engineered steel building erection. His calculated approach and hands-on management helped RMG Erectors & Constructors become the largest pre-engineered metal building erector in the world. Today, his company manages over 5 million square feet of construction annually. “Somebody has to be a pioneer. I’m willing to take those risks to be the pioneer,” continues Mesmer.

A case study by American Express highlights the value of business pivots during crises, aligning with Mesmer's strategy.

Mesmer’s ventures extend beyond the construction industry. He is also the founder of Iron Will Racing, LLC, a professional race team, and RMG Luxury Services, LLC, which offers high-end transportation services. His knack for identifying and capitalizing on niche markets has contributed to the success of two additional businesses he has developed and sold over the past 15 years.

    Personal Struggles Fuel Professional Triumphs

Mesmer's resilience is not limited to business. In 2021, he faced personal crises, including a tornado that damaged his home, followed by a heart attack and a stroke. Despite these challenges, Mesmer channeled his experiences into strengthening his leadership. Under his guidance, RMG expanded its operations and achieved vertical integration, controlling everything from raw materials to final warranties.

Research supports the idea that resilience in leadership is a key factor in long-term business success. His company has been recognized on the “Inc 5000 List” for three consecutive years, and Mesmer has been named a Titan 100 in Philadelphia for the past two years. Under his leadership, RMG’s expansion is projected to push its revenue towards $1 billion in the coming years.

Mesmer is passionate about collecting custom motorcycles and classic cars. He has a notable background in race car driving across various series, including IMSA, NASCAR, and SCCA. He retired from racing in 2023.
