Man arrested for diesel theft and striking deputys vehicle
TAMPA, Florida — A man was arrested for diesel theft and striking a deputy's vehicle while fleeing the scene, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. On July 20, 2024, at 3:43 a.m., deputies observed Kiusler Perez Ortiz, 24, at a closed Mobil gas station on Hillsborough Avenue with his vehicle parked on top of an underground diesel fuel tank's fill port. When deputies attempted to speak with Ortiz, he refused to comply with their commands, put his car into reverse briefly, and then accelerated forward rapidly, striking the rear of an unmarked HCSO vehicle and nearly striking a deputy.
