Justin Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday morning in Sag Harbor, New York, on DWI charges, "Extra" can confirm. He spent the night in jail.
Timberlake was pulled over around 12:30 a.m., according to his his attorney Ed Burke Jr.
TMZ sources say the "Selfish" singer had just been out to dinner with friends at the American Hotel, but Burke has not yet elaborated on any details leading up to the incident.
During the stop, Timberlake, 43, refused a breathalyzer test, which is an automatic license suspension, as per the DMV in the state of New York.
CBS News reports that the arresting officer noted he was "in an intoxicated condition," "his eyes were bloodshot and glassy," and "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath." According to the officer, Timberlake "performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests" and allegedly said, "I had one martini and I followed my friends home."
According to Page Six, the young arresting officer did not recognize Timberlake — nor had he ever heard of him.
Another source told the paper, “Justin said under his breath, ‘This is going to ruin the tour.’ The cop replied, ‘What tour?’ Justin said, ‘The world tour.'”
Two traffic violations were issued — running a stop sign and failure to stay in the correct lane. Timberlake appeared in court Tuesday morning and was released without bail.
People magazine reports Timberlake was with his attorney and two others in court, but that his wife Jessica Biel was not there. His hands cuffed in front, he wore "a black bowling shirt, light jeans, and white and baby blue Air Force 1" sneakers.
"He did seem a bit upset," the source noted.
After the arraignment, Timberlake's cuffs were removed and he was free to go. His next court date is July 26.
The Sag Harbor Police Department issued a statement on Tuesday confirming that Timberlake was arrested at 12:37 a.m. after he was "observed operating a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street, failing to stop at a duly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane of travel."
The statement continues, "A traffic stop was initiated by a Police Officer from the Sag Harbor Village Police Department and upon investigation it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition. Mr. Timberlake was placed under arrest, processed and held overnight for morning arraignment. Mr. Timberlake was arraigned at the Sag Harbor Village Justice Court on June 18, 2024, at 9:30 AM where he was released on his own recognizance."
Timberlake is currently on his Forget Tomorrow tour. He is due in Chicago this weekend for two shows and has another two in NYC next week.
Burke told "Extra" Timberlake's immediate priority is to be with his family.
