German American Bancorp has announced it will merge with Ohio-based Heartland BancCorp. You don't have to drive too far in southwest Indiana to run across a German American Bank building. Growing up in Petersburg, Indiana, I often remember seeing the company's large bank building on Main Street with the flags waving in the wind out front. To me, it's become a staple along the stretch of wide road, and I don't think the city would look the same without it. Since I was a kid, the corporation has grown tremedously and has just announced yet another feat that will expand services into a neighboring state.
Solon Summer Festival features parade, games, food, more
The city of Solon held its annual Summer Festival on July 28 at Solon Community Park on SOM Center Road. The event previously was called Solon Home Days. The event began with a parade that departed from the former Arthur Road Elementary School and concluded at Solon High School. Several participants, including Mayor Eddy Kraus, the Solon Police Department and the Solon High School marching band, drove through residential streets, with many throwing candy to onlooking families.

Elyria firefighters rescue teen who jumped from bridge into the Black River
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Elyria firefighters rescued a 17-year-old boy who jumped into the Black River off the Lake Avenue Bridge on Wednesday. Firefighter were called about 7:25 p.m. for reports that someone had jumped off the bridge into the Black River, near West Falls. When fire officials arrived, they went into the river to prevent the teen from going under water, according to Joseph Pronesti, the Elyria fire chief.
