PUBLIC NOTICE Saguache County
The Saguache County Childcare Committee is a coalition of community members and Saguache County employees to establish a daycare facility in Saguache, Colorado. We are seeking proposals from licensed contractors to assess 710 Denver Avenue, Saguache, Colorado for renovation needs, in compliance with regulations of the State of Colorado for Childcare Facilities. The purpose of this RFP is to invite contractors with relevant experience to submit proposals to the Saguache County Childcare Committee.
U.S. Forest Service signs off on Mt. Emmons Land Exchange
Hiking Red Lady to ski won’t be trespassing any more…. Another major step to protect Mt. Emmons, aka Red Lady, took place July 4 when Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forests forest supervisor Chad Stewart signed an official “Decision Memo” approving a 1,000+ acre land exchange that will allow for quicker reclamation efforts on Mt. Emmons for past mining activity. Those reclamation efforts are being conducted by the Mt. Emmons Mining Company (MEMC), a subsidiary of global mining giant Freeport McMoRan which is responsible for the water treatment facility on Red Lady.
Hiker rescued in remote area of Colorado backcountry
Saguache Search and Rescue responded to a spot beacon activation on the Colorado Trail in a remote part of Saguache County on Monday. Six personnel were deployed to the area, according to a Facebook post from Saguache County Search and Rescue. The search and rescue members traveled to the location by 4x4 vehicles and then by UTV. The crew continued on foot for approximately a half-mile to the spot beacon location. ...
Red Lady deal moves forward
Crested Butte’s Red Lady is one step closer to being permanently protected from the threat of mining. On July 8, the U.S. Forest Service signed the decision memo for the Mt. Emmons Land Exchange, authorizing the exchange of more than 1,000 acres of private and federal lands in Gunnison and Saguache counties.
U.S. Geological Survey Flights Slated to Begin in June
Low-level Helicopter Flights to Image Geology over areas of Southwestern Colorado as part of the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative. Those low-level flights you may begin to see over the county are not tourists; the flights are being done by the U.S.Geological Survey (USGS) group in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations over a broad region of southwestern Colorado to image geology using airborne geophysical technology.
