FORT KENT, Maine — Fort Kent Community High School and Valley Rivers Middle School recently released the honor roll for the second semester of the 2023-24 school year. This honor roll is determined as follows: Academic Honors: Learners need to meet proficiency (3) in course standards. Habits of Work (HOW) Honors: Learners need to be proficient (3) in all habits of work in every class based on our core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and engaged/invested learner. Those Learners review High Honors have earned a proficient score.

Musical note – Elementary students of Fort Kent dined to the organ music of the director of music for SAD 27, Joel Morneault. On the last day of school, June 13, 1974, a pleasant surprise awaited Fort Kent Elementary School’s student body. The ingenious director of music for SAD 27 had been scheduled to play for the eighth grade graduation and banquet that afternoon. He surprised the student body by playing favorite selections to all three groups, who dine at different time periods. His performance was so well received that many students and teachers requested the same service for every day of the 1974-75 school year.

Madawaska Announces Selection of New Town Manager
MADAWASKA, Maine (WAGM) - The town of Madawaska has announced the selection of a new town manager. Frenchville resident and former St. Agatha town manager David Daigle was selected for the position as the result of a multi-month hiring process following the departure of former town manager Gary Picard in February. Daigle served as town manager in St. Agatha from 1989 to 1998.

University of Maine at Fort Kent Participates in Statewide Forest-based Economy Collaborative Project
The University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) will participate in a four-year statewide collaborative project led by the University of Maine to foster resilient forest communities in Maine. The Maine-FOREST, or Forest-based Opportunities for Resilient Economy, Sustainability and Technology project, will be funded through a $7 million grant from the National Science Foundation.
UMFK Students Named to the Spring 2024 Dean’s List
The University of Maine at Fort Kent is proud to announce the Dean’s List for the spring 2024 semester. This list includes full-time and part-time students. “Congratulations to the students who have made the UMFK Dean’s & Academic Recognition Lists,” said UMFK’s President Deb Hedeen. “The Dean’s List includes full-time students who have earned a 3.2 grade point average, while the Academic Recognition List acknowledges our part-time students who have also earned a 3.2 GPA. Madawaska officials add stop signs in a growing part of town
MADAWASKA, Maine — Madawaska selectmen approved multiple traffic changes at a June 20 meeting after Police Chief Jamie Pelletier presented the results of a five-week study. The most significant traffic change will take place at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Dionne Street, which will now be a four-way stop. It was formerly just a two-way stop, where traffic on Dionne Street needed to stop, but traffic on 19th Avenue could continue without stopping.
