New Sweden home a total loss after early morning fire
NEW SWEDEN, Maine – A fire Wednesday morning fully destroyed a New Sweden home before fire crews could arrive. Caribou Fire & Ambulance arrived at 128 Stockholm Road around 4:18 a.m. to find the home fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters used 25,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

Gagnon feted on retirement – A retirement party was given for Gerald Gagnon at the Valley Inn in Van Buren by the Post Office staff. A certificate was presented to Gerald from the U.S. Postal Service for his 38 years of service. He also received a gold watch and a survival boat seat from all the Van Buren postal staff. Buffet luncheon was served and a short film taken of the postal staff in 1948 was shown and enjoyed by all.

Fort Kent Police Arrest Suspect in UMFK Vehicle and Equipment Theft
FORT KENT, Maine (WAGM) - The Fort Kent Police Department has made an arrest in a case involving vehicle and equipment thefts from the University of Maine in Fort Kent. On the morning of July 1, 2024, the Fort Kent Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle theft from the University of Maine in Fort Kent parking lot. This theft occurred in the early morning hours of June 30. Additionally, a large amount of forestry equipment, including 10 chainsaws and various handheld saws and tools, was stolen from a work shed on the UMFK campus. Throughout the day, reports of an individual acting suspiciously at homes in the Fort Kent area were received. Following an investigation, 20-year-old Preston Soucy was arrested. The vehicle and tools have been recovered.

MADAWASKA, Maine (WAGM) - Golf is a lifetime sport with people playing the game into their 90′s and older. Some County and Western New Brunswick Clubs are no exception, as they have several members who are over the age of 90. Most of the older golfers enjoy a game with their friends at their local course, but a Madawaska golfer is one of the oldest active members of the Upper St John Valley Seniors Association. Mike Pelletier who turns 91 this week is still very competitive and shoots his age consistently.
