Executive director of Fish Rural Health Center, Heather Pelletier says they noted that folks from the Madawaska area struggled to receive healthcare services from Fish River’s current Fort Kent and Eagle Lake locations. Madawaska hires new town manager
MADAWASKA, Maine — Madawaska officials hired David Daigle of Frenchville, a Madawaska native, as the new town manager on Thursday, June 20. Daigle, who also owns property in Madawaska, currently works as the operation manager for Autotronics, LLC in Frenchville. Before that, he spent 22 years as the director of financial aid for York County Community College in Wells.

WESTMANLAND, Maine (WAGM) - The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North is investigating a shooting that happened in the vicinity of 1055 Westmanland Road at approximately 7:25 pm on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The individual shot suffered life threatening injuries and is currently at a local hospital. There is no danger to the public. Additional information will be forthcoming.

Pat Cyr is queen candidate – The last time Madawaska had a candidate in the Maine Potato Blossom Festival at Fort Fairfield, Madawaska came up with a winner. That was in 1957, when Charlene Pelletier was crowned Maine’s Potato Blossom Queen in the Festival Pageant. It looks like Madawaska might have another winner this year: Patricia Ann “Pat” Cyr, daughter of Mrs. Yolande Desmarais and Philip Cyr of Madawaska, who will be sponsored by Madawaska Chamber of Commerce in this year’s Maine Potato Blossom Pageant set for July 20, 1974.

Strong high pressure at the surface to our south and aloft will bring sunny, hot, and humid conditions for Juneteenth with highs rising close to (or equaling/exceeding) near record levels in the mid-to-upper 90s (for Fort Kent, the record high for the date is 94 set in 2020). Maximum heat indices (“feels like”) look to be in the 100 to 105° range for many locations today.
Avoiding Burnout with a Wellness Festival
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Work burnout can happen any time of the year. Folks at AMHC wanted to show their employees different ways to avoid burnout with a wellness festival. The Bangor Daily News in 1937 reported on two success stories in Aroostook County by the Resettlement Administration. The Babbin family and Waldo Holmquist. The article puts the situation in context when it said that a million farmers were on the dole during that time and the practical belief by the New Deal expressed itself “more ideal and beneficial situation exists when the farmer is helped to help himself than by parceling out of direct relief. It was illustrated that a small loan, better land, and proper farming methods would place many of these distressed families on their feet permanently.”
