105 Year Old World War II Veteran Honored in Madawaska
MADAWASKA, Maine (WAGM) - A distinguished World War II veteran, celebrated his 105th birthday today with a special ceremony at Country Village Estates LLC in Madawaska. Armand Martin, was honored for his extraordinary service and dedication, by receiving a letter and a commemorative coin from Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough. The presentation was made by staff from Togus VA Medical Center.
Heat wave could bring record breaking temperatures to Aroostook
FORT KENT, Maine – Heat records throughout Aroostook County and beyond may be met, or even broken, during a heat wave predicted to peak on Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Caribou is predicting that Fort Kent will get close to breaking its previous all-time record by hitting 96 degrees on June 19. Fort Kent, according to the National Weather Service, is not an official climate site and official records are not kept of the community. Unofficial records, however, indicate that Fort Kent’s all-time high temperature was 98 degrees, recorded back in 1893.

Maine Moose Lottery Drawing Held in Fort Kent
FORT KENT, Maine (WAGM) - Fort Kent welcomed in folks from various states for the Maine Moose Lottery Drawing on Saturday. Prior to the lottery drawing, the festival offered 13 food trucks from around the county, various vendor tents, a touch a truck event, kid games and bounce houses, along with live DJ music and a beer garden. As 1 pm rolled around, lottery participants ranging from ages 12 and up eagerly waited for their chance to win a Moose hunting permit. Winners did not have to be present to win as the moose lottery winners were posted by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website.

Surrounded by family. She was born on April 25, 1948 and was the daughter of the late Philip and Juliette (Chasse) Plourde. Raised in Van Buren, ME, Susan was a graduate of Van Buren High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, ME. She continued as a dedicated nurse throughout her career which included many years at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. A Wakefield resident for the past 46 years, she spent many summer vacations at Long Lake in northern ME. Susan was a selfless individual who devoted all of her time to caring for others, loved cooking and spending time with her family.
