ST. ALBANS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Volunteers from ten work crews representing five states and associated with the West Virginia Ministry of Advocacy and Work Camps (WVMAW) have generously dedicated their time, resources, and skills to renovate a St. Albans home intended to serve as an aftercare facility for individuals in recovery.

At the Hezekiah House, located in St. Albans, North Carolina, youth and advisors from Avondale Presbyterian Church took part in the final stages of the renovation efforts.

The ambitious project was initiated due to Eugene Hezekiah Washington’s generous donation of his estate to the St. Paul Missionary Church several years ago. Pastor Michael Poke, Sr. expressed his commitment to cost-effectively refurbishing the home to provide a place of hope and healing for those battling addiction.

The transformed Hezekiah House will accommodate up to six individuals and offer long-term support for up to three years if needed. As a key partner in the initiative, Peyton Ballard, the executive director of WVMAW, reported that their work crews have diligently carried out various repairs, including flooring, electrical work, painting, siding, plumbing, and installation of donated kitchen cabinets.

Ballard also mentioned that the St. Albans Presbyterian Church has hosted the WVMAW groups during this extensive project.

WVMAW’s total contribution to the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year, exceeds $50,000 through volunteer hours, donated materials, and equipment. Moreover, additional work crews, under the supervision of WVMAW staff, hailing from various prep schools and churches, have been actively involved in the renovation process.

Pastor Poke expressed his deep gratitude for the local and out-of-state support, emphasizing the significant need for recovery housing. He also stated the church’s commitment to providing career guidance and job placements for the residents.

Those interested in supporting this project can make donations to Hezekiah House at 821 B Street, Saint Albans, WV. Furthermore, WVMAW has multiple locations in Beckley, Charleston, Point Pleasant, St. Albans, and Summersville.
