COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) - A South Carolina man convicted in a series of four murders in two states more than 20 years ago has finally learned his fate. Quincy Allen, 44, of Columbia, was initially sentenced to death for two of those murders in South Carolina, but that punishment was overturned in 2022.
Columbia Urban League donates $80K to Midlands school districts
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Columbia Urban League announced Monday morning it is donating $80,000 in food cards to local school districts to help pay for student meals. The food cards would go directly to the administration of Richland One, Richland Two, and Lexington/Richland Five districts to help with their ColaEats program. It will be up to the school districts to identify which students who would benefit from the funds.

NEW ORLEANS, LA — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Academic and All-American individual athletes, recognizing the USC Upstate women’s program under the direction of Carson Blackwelder for their team GPA of 3.08. At the July 16 Irmo Town Council meeting, the Town officially announced that the Irmo Community Park was being renamed “Moore Park” after Jake Moore. Moore received a Proclamation during the Council presentation citing his “numerous contributions to the betterment of the Irmo Community and the Midlands.” An official plaque will be placed on the amphitheater area of the park about Moore and his countless contributions to the Town of Irmo and the Irmo community. Jake Moore also secured the land for the Irmo Veteran’s Park to honor the service and sacrifice of local veterans.
