Commissioner Vacates Seat from City of South Pittsburg Board
During South Pittsburg’s Board of Mayor and Commissioners meeting on Tuesday night, Commissioner Cameron Moss vacated his seat on the board. Jon Oliver Foote
Jon Oliver Foote, age 63 of Decherd, Tennessee, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 27, 2024. Jon was born March 17,1961, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Ron and June Foote. He was the youngest of nine siblings. Jon lived in Spirit Lake, Iowa, Polk, Nebraska, and Lincoln Nebraska, where he met Lori Watson. They became high school sweethearts and married on October 25, 1980. Jon and Lori moved to Colorado to pursue Aviation Maintenance training, graduated in 1984 from Colorado Aero Tech, and immediately started his own aircraft restoration business. They spent a total of 14 years in Colorado, mostly in the Longmont/Frederick areas. In 1987, Jon had a vision to start an aviation ministry, Missionaire. The ministry trained people to become mechanics and pilots while actively restoring "real" flyable aircraft, most of which were sent into service with other ministries all over the world. Jon retired from his work with Missionaire in 2021, after almost 35 years of service. Jon also operated aircraft maintenance businesses in various locations where the family lived, including Kimball, Nebraska, Tompkinsville, Kentucky, and Winchester, Tennessee.

Car Destroyed by Fire Tuesday Morning
On Tuesday morning at 3:00 AM the Haletown Fire and Rescue and deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car fire at the 18000 Block of Hwy 41. Upon arrival, Haletown firefighters found the vehicle was fully engulfed. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The vehicle was a total loss. No firemen nor civilians were injured.

Hunter Cole Smithson, a 28 year old loving father, spouse, brother, son, and friend, unexpectedly left this world while doing what he loved in Normandy, TN on July 7, 2024. Hunter was born in Murfreesboro, TN to his parents- John Randolph Smithson and Penny Denise Johnson Shelton. Hunter found the most joy in a deer stand, with a turkey call, casting a line at Normandy Lake, hunting morel mushrooms, searching for arrowheads, dancing to funk music, or cooking a delicious meal. Above all else, Hunter loved his precious baby girls- Louella and Layla, Fiancé- Sarah Reed, and baby boy- Beau Hunter. He loved immensely, wrote poems and letters with the most delicate tone, and always danced as if no one was looking. Hunter completed the Smithson Trio- a bond with his sisters, Hillari and Holli, that could never be shaken. His smile brought joy to all, and his presence felt like home.

Katherine Marie Vaughn Obituary
Katherine Marie Vaughn of Tullahoma passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital at the age of 86. Mrs. Vaughn was born in Warren County to the late William Martin and Stella Sparkman Smith. During her life she was a member of College Street Baptist Church, and retired from Wal-Mart after 27 ½ years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vaughn was preceded in death by her husband, Millard “Tony” Vaughn; one daughter, JoAnn Painter; brothers, Wayne, James, and Buddy Smith; sisters, Grace Reedy, Inia Cruise, Pauline Tatum, Billie Kyzer, and Ruth Dodson; and one great-grandson, Nolan.

The developer who proposed building a Circle K store on the Winchester Highway and was requesting a zoning change has withdrawn his plans.
