City budget passes $37 million budget in final reading
The Fiscal Year 2025 City Budget passed in a third and final reading at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen’s second June meeting, totaling to $37,227,852. Alderman Daniel Berry made an amendment to add back in the non-profit and tourism funding that he had previously motioned for to be put into contingency since he said the board had to cancel study sessions regarding the two issues. Alderman Derick Mann seconded his motion and the motion passed unanimously.

TigerSharks pick up home win versus Fayetteville
The Sewanee TigerSharks hosted the Fayetteville Area Swim Team Saturday at the Fowler Center and recorded another team victory. The TigerSharks had 76 total top-two finishes for the day, including first-place performances in 47 of the meet’s 68 events.

Jason Scott Hogan, 44, of Tullahoma passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Jason was born in Franklin County on Nov. 10, 1979 to Alvie James Hogan and Carol Elaine Thompson. Johnny Boyd Champion Obituary
Johnny Boyd Champion, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at his home at the age of 85. Mr. Champion was born in Winchester to the late Charlie and Argie Fears Champion. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and went on to work in Shipping and Receiving at the Eaton Corporation, retiring after 30 years. Mr. Champion was of the Baptist faith and was called to preach the gospel in 1972. He was ordained as a pastor on Sept. 21, 1975 and served 45 years in the ministry before retiring in 2017 at the age of 78 due to health issues. In addition to his parents, Mr. Champion was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Champion; and his siblings, Howard Champion, Nina Payne, Geneva Gipson, Mary Garland, Parker Champion, and Rudy Champion. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie Hill Champion; two daughters, Lisa (Eddy) Seals, and Lea Ann (Patrick) Phillips; daughter-in-law, LaDanna Champion; eight grandchildren, Corey (Courtney) Damron, Amanda (Alex) Lefever, Jeremiah (Keela) Seals, Jeffery Champion, Joel (Katie) Champion, Amber (Matthew) Gluch, Peyton (Jenna) Phillips, and Jay (Mika) Phillips; and 13 great-grandchildren, Cobie Damron, Caysen Damron, Hayley Seals, Hendrix Champion, Aubry Champion, Kimber Champion, Piper Champion, Tinsley Champion, Grayson Gluch, Brinley Gluch, Sawyer Phillips, Beckett Phillips, and Baylor Phillips.
Decherd police seize fentanyl and meth during traffic stop; two arrested
DECHERD, Tenn. (WZTV) — More than 165 fentanyl pills were seized during a Middle Tennessee traffic stop last week, police say. An officer in Decherd conducted the stop on Thursday during a fentanyl trafficking investigation. Police say the officer saw drug paraphernalia "in plain sight" while speaking to the occupants in the vehicle. More drug paraphernalia was found in the pants pocket of the driver.

The Tullahoma Little League 11u All Stars fell to Winchester in the district semifinal, while the 12u All Stars dropped the championship game to Columbia. The 11u team made up by Grady Sturgill, Liam Tipps, Preston Silvertooth, Sean Marsh, Harrison Grow, Maddux McCallon, Briggs Legeune, Andrew Garland, Jordan Bunn, Kaynan Maupin, Waylon Crawford and Gabe Davis won the first game of the weekend 19-7. Marsh, Bunn, Sturgill, Davis and Garland each had two hits in the game. Bunn had a double and a triple. Marsh also had a double and Grow had a triple. McCallon, Tipps, Silvertooth, Grow and Legeune had a hit each.

Local man killed in interstate cycle crash
A Coffee County man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 24 near Exit 111 this past week. According to the accident report filed by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the victim Jason S. Hogan, 44, of Tullahoma was traveling east on his 2002 Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorcycle when lost control and overturned around 1:13 a.m. Tuesday.

Dr. Mike Hill of Elora just returned from Europe where he attended the commemorative services marking the 80th anniversary of World War II’s D-Day campaign.
