Bonnaroo's 20th Anniversary: A Musical Journey Through Time
The Bonnaroo Music Festival celebrated its 20th year in 2024, held on an old farm in rural Manchester, Tennessee. The beloved music and arts festival began in 2002, the same year as Coachella, and has taken place annually since then, except for 2021 and 2022 due to the pandemic and hurricane flooding, respectively. The festival has garnered numerous accolades, including being ranked by Rolling Stone magazine in 2003 as one of the "50 Moments That Changed Rock & Roll," named "Festival of the Decade" by Consequence of Sound, and listed among the "10 Best Festivals" by GQ Magazine.
Tullahoma Youth Football Camp
The Tullahoma High School Football team will be holding their youth camp starting on July 8, going through July 10. The camp will start at 9 a.m. and go until noon each day. The fieldhouse will be open by 8 a.m. for drop-off. The camp is $60 per camper and $30 for each additional sibling. Payment is to be provided on the first day of camp. Checks are to be made payable to “Tullahoma QB Club”. Campers must be in a Tullahoma City School or be a home school student that lives within the district.

DAVID, Brenda Jeanette (Mann), age 74, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Bailey Manor in Winchester, surrounded by her family. She was born on Aug. 17, 1949, in Fayetteville, Tennessee to Robert Wilburn Mann, Sr. and Essie E. (Walker) Mann. She married Emmitt Allen David, Sr. on Feb. 22, 1968 in Ringgold, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Robert David; grandson, Oscar William David; her parents; her sister, Elizabeth (Mann) Limbaugh; sister-in-law, Judy (David) Smith; and brother-in-law, Donnie V. David. Brenda had a strong faith and attended the Church of Christ with special love for the members at Shady Lane and I Street, her churches in Indiana; and Huntland and Pleasant Ridge churches in Tennessee. Her love for Jesus shone through all her deeds, such as sitting with loved ones in their final days, the bereavement baskets brought to grieving families and many other acts of kindness. Brenda had a Certificate of Human Resources, an A.A.S. in Computer Programming Technology and A.A.S. in Supervision, a B.S. in Organizational Leadership and a M.B.A. from Purdue University. She loved to learn and never stopped taking on new challenges. Brenda worked at Purdue University North Central as a computer operator and held many responsibilities, her favorite being assisting faculty, staff and students in resolving problems with their computer and their network issues. Brenda was actively involved in many charities in her local area and ran many five-kilometer races to help with funding. She enjoyed sewing, painting, quilting, crafting and gardening. Her most cherished moments were the times spent with her kids, (her own kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, Sunday school kids and the many kids she tutored through the years). She is survived by her husband, Emmitt; daughter, Deloris Jean (Kenny) Satoski; son, Emmitt Allen (Kathy) David, Jr.; grandsons, Jake Robert David, Joel Michael McKinnon, Justin (Kim) Withrow and Craig Withrow; granddaughter, Pamela Sue Clanton; great-grandson, Blaine Withrow; great-granddaughter, Ella Withrow; four brothers, Wilburn (Linda) Mann, Charles (Judy) Mann, Billy Mann and Jerry (Shirley) Mann; sister, Sherry (Mann) Stovall; brothers-in-law, Billy Wayne Limbaugh, Willard (Pat) David and Robert (Linda) David; sister-in-law, Bonnie Williams; and many cherished nieces and nephews. A special thank you is extended to the staff at Bailey Manor and the Gentiva Hospice Group for the wonderful care and love shown to Brenda and her family through the end. Local educator honored by International Society
The Theta chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (DKG) attended the Tennessee State Convention held at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee from May 30 to June 1, 2024. DKG, a professional honor society for women educators with a membership exceeding 50,000, is globally recognized with establishments in 17 countries. The Society is committed to fostering the professional and personal growth of women educators and promoting excellence in education. Comprising members from Chester and Madison Counties, the Theta chapter was well represented at the state convention, with five of its members in attendance. The convention featured workshops on education, society business, and personal interests, with the keynote speaker being DKG International First Vice President Connie Rensink. Notably, Regina Karnes, a dedicated 19-year member and retired Chester County special education educator, was honored with the Order of the Rose Award for her exceptional contributions to the chapter and the community. The Theta chapter, established in 1939, continues to play a significant role in the education landscape, hosting a variety of impactful projects such as UNICEF for GIRLS (Girls Initiative to Revitalize Learning Success), Student Essay Contests, and Teacher Grants-in-Aid.
Silent radio station
WSGM Radio, 104.7 FM, has been off the air since the end of May due to a lightning strike that knocked out its transmitter, console, computer and printer. According to Gina McKnight, everything has been replaced except the transmitter. ‘We have a loaner low-watt transmitter and were hoping to at least get back on the air this week to play music and do a little bit of talking. We won’t be able to reach as far out as we once did. We need to fix the transmitter we have or buy a new one.’ Donations are being accepted by Citizens Tri-County Bank. Tell the bank teller that the donation is for Cumberland Communications Corporation.
