Registration Open to Explore How Lake George’s Water Quality Has Been Improved
(KNSI) – Residents are invited to take a tour of Lake George next month. Registration opened today for St. Cloud’s stormwater division’s one-mile excursion, which showcases the steps taken to improve the lake’s water quality while enjoying the scenery. The guided tour will detail how the lake has changed over the years, what is being done to protect it and why stormwater management is so important.
Growing Leadership in the Workforce in Central MN
People are either born leaders or learn to be leaders. Gail Cruikshank, Talent Director from the Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation joined me on WJON for our monthly "Get a Job" segment. She identified how young people can become leaders. Cruikshank says 65% of youth involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters agreed their Big helped them reach a higher level of education than they thought possible. 52% reported their Big kept them from dropping out of school. 51.9% of high school students attending EPIC reported learning from someone in the field that was most effective for their career exploration. These numbers indicate some sort of mentorship can be beneficial for young people.
Zoning Board to Consider CUP for Monument Sales Move

Local election candidates set as deadline for filing passes
The candidates for the upcoming Nov. 5 general election are set after the candidacy filing period closed Aug. 13. All candidates in the upcoming election will be non-partisan. Many cities in the area will have their residents voting on the positions of mayor and council members, with several of the towns needing to fill numerous council seats. All but one of the cities will have their current mayor running for reelection unopposed.
US colleges are cutting majors and slashing programs
Christina Westman dreamed of working with Parkinson’s disease and stroke patients as a music therapist when she started studying at St. Cloud State University. But her schooling was upended in May when administrators at the Minnesota college announced a plan to eliminate its music department as it slashes 42 degree programs and 50 minors.
