Oak Park Motorcyclist Injured in Collision with Deer Near Pierz, Reminder of Rural Road Hazards
Early morning commuters in Morrison County encountered an unexpected disruption this past Thursday. A motorcycle accident on Partridge Road resulted in injuries for 33-year-old Cody Keeler of Oak Park, MN. The Morrison County Sheriff's Office received a report of the accident at approximately 5:59 am, which occurred south of 153rd Street, about four miles east of Pierz, in Hillman Township.
Registration Open to Explore How Lake George’s Water Quality Has Been Improved

St. Cloud VA to Host Overdose Awareness Event
The St. Cloud V.A. is offering an overdose awareness event Wednesday August 28. I was joined on WJON by Dr. Justin Hendricks, Dr. Tracanne Legatt, Music Therapist Madge Scherer and Public Affairs Officer Barry Venable. International overdose awareness day is August 31 but because the V.A. isn't open on Saturdays the event has been planned for Wednesday August 28. The event will include education about overdose awareness, reduction strategies, fentanyl test kits, and Katie Newman will be on hand to provide naloxone prescriptions for those veterans who are interested. Dr. Legatt says this will be at no cost for veterans.

One Person Hurt In Elk River Crash
ELK RIVER (WJON News) -- One person was hurt in a crash between a car and motorcycle Saturday evening. The Minnesota State Patrol says at about 5:10 p.m. a car driven by 30-year-old Samantha Aschenbrener of Big Lake was turning onto Joplin Street NW and a motorcycle ridden by 45-year-old James Underwood of Big Lake was going west on Highway 10 when they crashed in the intersection of the two roads.

Growing Leadership in the Workforce in Central MN
People are either born leaders or learn to be leaders. Gail Cruikshank, Talent Director from the Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation joined me on WJON for our monthly "Get a Job" segment. She identified how young people can become leaders. Cruikshank says 65% of youth involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters agreed their Big helped them reach a higher level of education than they thought possible. 52% reported their Big kept them from dropping out of school. 51.9% of high school students attending EPIC reported learning from someone in the field that was most effective for their career exploration. These numbers indicate some sort of mentorship can be beneficial for young people.
St. Cloud Area Teams Fare Well at State Amateur Baseball Tourney
The St. Cloud area is well represented at the Class C and B State tournaments. In Class C the Cold Spring Rockies, Buckman Billygoats, Farming Flames, St. Joseph Joes and Kimball Express were all winners this past weekend. Games are being played in Belle Plaine, Green Isle, Jordan and Shakopee. Results below.
