Salamanca Dominates Olean to Win 11-1
SALAMANCA, NY — It’s not often that two teams combine for more runs than hits, but that is what happened Sunday night in Salamanca. The Oilers were dominated by the Lizards, who scored more runs than the Oilers had base runners. With a total of eight base runners for the entire game, the Oilers fell to the Lizards 11-1. The game was stopped in the eighth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER The Oilers struggled to produce any offense against the Lizards' Josh Martos, who only allowed three hits, three walks and two hit-batters over the eight innings. Oilers pitchers struggled to find the strike zone. Four pitchers combined to allow just seven hits but walked 14 batters and hit four others. Pitcher Matt Marsh suffered his first loss of the season, allowing six runs off four hits, walking five and hitting two batters. The Oilers are home on Tuesday for their final regular season home game, which is against the Dansville Gliders. It is the team's fan appreciation game, and admission is free. ‘Contagious’ struggles underscore Oilers’ 8-inning loss to Lizards

Friday, 1:59 p.m., one injury was reported following a one-vehicle accident involving a bicycle at the intersection of West State and North Seventh streets. A vehicle operated by Eric M. Firkel, 39, of Eldred, Pa., reportedly struck a bicycle crossing outside the crosswalk. A juvenile bicycle operator was transported to Olean General Hospital for treatment of reported abrasions.
