ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Frontier Park was buzzing Thursday afternoon with live music, delicious local food, and family-friendly activities like face painting, carnival rides, as organizers and attendees hoped Mother Nature would not disrupt the St. Charles Riverfest fireworks show.

“We don’t have any alternative plans, but we’re going back to my brother’s house in St. Louis for a cookout so we might have a cook in,” out-of-towner Patrick Byrne said.

Like Byrne, Denita Hord of Kansas City pinned her hopes on seeing fireworks Thursday evening.

“No, we don’t have any other plans, which is unfortunate because I came down here to spend the Fourth of July with my brother and his family from Kansas City,” she said.

Even with the threat of rain, some attendees we spoke with had plenty to look forward to, on a plate or on the stage.

“They got so many types of food,” Tyrone Bell said. “I just be up here eating all the different types of food they got here.”

“I come out to see the bands, because they have a couple of good bands playing out here,” Vito Piscotta said.

It’s clear that no matter the weather, the spirit of celebration stayed strong in St. Charles, with the community is ready to adapt and enjoy this Independence Day, rain or shine.

“Pop some fireworks with my family, little siblings, and stuff like that” Bell said.

“We’re probably going to go get ice cream and probably walk around in the rain. We have an umbrella, I think, so we’ll probably just walk around downtown, cause it’s really pretty down here,” Lilly Mrac said.
