Traffic stalled westbound on I-70 near St. Charles after deadly crash

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – There were significant traffic backups Wednesday morning on Interstate 70 in St. Charles after a deadly crash.

According to MSHP, two vehicles were traveling westbound on I-70 around 10:45 a.m. while a third vehicle was parked on the left shoulder in the same stretch of road.

One of the drivers, 42-year-old Amy Shirley, crashed into the parked vehicle before re-entering the highway and striking the other driver.

Shirley was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other reported injuries.

MSHP says there were backups for all lanes westbound at I-70 before 5th Street, stretching into St. Louis County. Traffic was diverted to the 5th Street exit in St. Charles.
