Overnight Fire in Southern Minnesota Claims 2 Lives
Montgomery, MN (KROC-AM News) - The State Fire Marshal has been called to investigate a deadly house fire in Le Sueur County. The Sheriff's Office says the fire was reported around 1 AM at a rural home near Montgomery. The 911 call was from one of the victims who reported that she and her husband were trapped in the burning home.
11 WEM track and field athletes named to All-Conference team
The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown(WEM) track and field team had 11 athletes named to the Gopher Conference 2024 team. The school had the second-most athletes named to the all-conference track and field team, being only behind JWP who had eighteen on the team. The Buccaneers finished in the middle of the conference for overall team scores, with the girls team finishing sixth in the conference with a score of 55.5 while the boys team finished fifth in the conference with a score of 59. ...

Some Midwestern grain farmers are finding strong basis levels. Elections Equipment Public Accuracy Test
The Blue Earth County Elections Office will be testing its optical scan precinct counters and assistive voting devices on Thursday, July 18. Testing will be held at 9:00 AM in the Elections Office on the first floor of the Historic Courthouse, 204 S 5th Street, Mankato. Public Accuracy Tests are required by law and are open to the public.

WINNEBAGO — Ron Schenk of Winnebago, Minn., a dedicated and hardworking individual who lived life to the fullest, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the age of 64, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago. A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Winnebago. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Diane Rose Johnson
Johnson, Diane Rose age 83 of Lakeville, died in the early morning of Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Fairview Medical Center in Burnsville following a difficult battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Diane was married to Randall Q. Johnson of Lakeville and worked for ThermoKing in Bloomington for many years. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at the Waterville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service. Minot Honeybees take win over Mankato
The Minot Honeybees made their final stop on the current road trip with a stop in Mankato to play the Habaneros. Mankato built a 6-2 lead over the first four innings of play. The Honeybees would add four runs at the top of the fifth inning and another two at the top of the seventh inning enroute to the 8-7 win.
Waseca Man pleads not guilty to felony assault charges
A Waseca man who has previously been convicted of domestic assault three times pleaded not guilty to two felony charges of domestic assault last week, setting the stage for a jury trial and potentially a decade in prison should he be convicted of both counts. The charges against Michael David Wittenberg, 37, stem from a June 12 incident in which police were dispatched to a Waseca residence to find Wittenberg and a family/household member, whom Wittenberg has previously been convicted of assault against. ...
