LUCAN MAN HURT IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH
A Lucan man was hurt in a motorcycle crash on Highway 60 at Highway 15 in Watonwan County near Madelia. The state patrol was called at 5:19 pm Wednesday to the crash and found a Harley Davidson Cruiser driven by 26-year-old Vincent Haala of Lucan had left the roadway. He was taken to Madelia Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. Madelia ambulance, fire and police and the Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office all assisted at the scene.

Sommers Brothers Custom Baling LLC family recognized as 2024 Waseca County Farm Family of the Year
The Brian and Matthew Sommers families of Waseca has been named Waseca County’s “2024 Farm Family of the Year” by the University of Minnesota. Brian and Matthew Sommers started Sommers Brothers Custom Baling in 2006 when they purchased their first big square baler. They were 18 and 20 years old. They specialize in large square bales of hay, grass and corn stalks for customers in Waseca and surrounding counties. MN DNR Auction Set to Begin Friday
The Minnesota DNR is having a confiscated equipment auction beginning Friday. Glen Schmitt from Outdoor News joined me on WJON. The auctions will be held online at www.hillerauction.com. The auctions are scheduled for Aug. 26 and Oct. 7. Schmitt says the DNR has done this 12 years and basically they auction off equipment they've confiscated/seized from violators in the past year. Items include bows, guns, trapping equipment, fishing equipment, etc... The first auction opens at 8 a.m. Friday August 23 and goes until 5 p.m. on August 26. Schmitt says the last time the DNR did this they generated over $200,000. The largest money raised from an auction was in 2020 when they generated $303,000. The money goes into the state's general game and fish fund.
