Nicholas Stephen Blackford, 78, De Soto
Nicholas Stephen Blackford, 78, of De Soto died July 1, 2024. Mr. Blackford was a member of De Soto Elks Lodge 689 where he was a past exalted ruler. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto, was a 3rd Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 1185 of De Soto and was a 30-year booster of the Amvets Post 48. He enjoyed playing golf, drinking cocktails, barbeque grilling, spending winters in Texas with friends and spending time with his family. Born July 23, 1945, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Wilma Ruth (Stubblefield) and Joe Blackford.

Diana Jean (McKinnis) DeClue, 53, of Hillsboro died July 10, 2024, at her home. Mrs. DeClue was a longtime employee of Signature Orthopedics. She enjoyed gardening, feeding the wildlife, camping and spending time with family. Born Jan. 17, 1971, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of Barbara (Nowicki) Isringhaus of Hillsboro and the late Charles McKinnis.

Gov. Parson approves state funding for De Soto’s Amtrak stop
Gov. Mike Parson has signed off on partial funding for the proposed Amtrak stop in De Soto. Parson approved the state budget on June 28, leaving intact the $1 million in funding state legislators earmarked for the construction of a proposed train platform near the De Soto Public Library where Amtrak’s Texas Eagle would make two stops a day.

Wildwood’s Brooke Biermann crossed one big item off her bucket list. Biermann won the 94th Missouri Women's Amateur at Hickory Hills Country Club in Springfield. Biermann, a Lafayette graduate who will be a senior this fall at Michigan State, fired a 5-under par 211 (73-68-70) to top the field. She took the lead in the second round with a 4-under par 68 and closed out with a 2-under par 70 to hold on for the win.
