St. Clair's Brothers on Main getting a TV makeover
In January, Daniel Holmes sent a fateful email. The subject – his bar. Holmes has owned Brothers on Main, serving food and drinks in St. Clair, since March 2021. He started the aptly named business with his brother. While the food service industry runs in his blood, rising costs for supplies and labor have squeezed Holmes to the breaking point. The bar was on life-support. It would not survive without drastic action.
New residential building permits increase
Following a slight decrease in May from the previous month, Washington issued more than $4.8 million in new residential construction permits in June. That compares to $3.1 million in May and $3.6 million in April. No residential new construction permits were issued in March, although $6.2 million worth were issued in February, and $2.8 million in January.

Franklin County restaurant to get 'Bar Rescue' makeover this week
ST CLAIR, Mo. — A restaurant in St. Clair, Missouri, is set to get a makeover thanks to "Bar Rescue." Brothers on Main, a restaurant serving American fare, will be visited by host Jon Taffer who will help give the business a boost. Taffer and his team will help the business make changes and train staff before reopening to debut the changes.

High Ridge man dies on duty at Affton firehouse
Affton Fire Capt. James “Jim” Cova, 54, of High Ridge died on July 9, 2024. Cova was found unresponsive at the fire district’s Firehouse 1 while on duty after completing several emergency responses during his shift, according to a post on the Affton Fire Protection District Facebook page.

Three from Union injured in I-44 rollover crash
Three people from Union were injured in a rollover crash on Interstate 44 Tuesday afternoon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The patrol reported that at approximately 1 p.m., a 2008 Chevrolet Impala was traveling westbound on I-44 between St. Clair and Sullivan when the driver Christopher Carwile, 28, lost control of the vehicle due to the wet roadway. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, hit a tree, and overturned.
