Man hurt in Dittmer motorcycle crash
A motorcyclist was injured on July 6 when he struck a deer on Hwy. B near Homewood Drive in Dittmer, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported. At 6:15 p.m., John E. Reece, 60, of Valley Park was riding a northbound 2007 Harley-Davidson when he struck a deer in the roadway and was ejected from the motorcycle, the report said.

Conner, who will be a sophomore at Hillsboro this school year, won the national title in the bulls-eye competition with a score of 297 (out of a perfect 300) at the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) championships June 6-8 in Daytona Beach, Fla. In the 3-D Challenge, Conner shot 293 to finish fifth. At the Eastern NASP tournament May 9-11 in Louisville, he scored 292 in bull’s-eye (33rd out of 2,513 participants) and 288 in 3-D (third out of 295).

Northbound Highway N lanes to close for Pacific construction
Starting this month, Pacific’s Highway N will only run southbound as repairs are made to the roadway. Public Works Commissioner Robert Brueggemann said at a July 2 Board of Aldermen meeting the project closures are slated to start July 11, but they could be pushed to July 15 depending on weather. City staff were unable to provide any further information Tuesday regarding start date.
Pacific pool open for 2024 season
The Pacific municipal pool has finally opened. Despite thunderstorms and flood warnings early in the week, the city posted the announcement on its website and social media pages Monday, marking the beginning of its abbreviated 2024 season. Mayor Heather Filley said in an email that Midwest Pool, the company that manages Pacific’s facility, worked diligently to get the pool prepared “despite their initial thought of not being able to open.”
