Washington woman dies after being struck by vehicle
A Washington woman who was struck by a vehicle near Pleasant View apartments in Washington died two days later in the hospital. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at approximately 12:15 a.m. July 5, Carrie Riebold, 44, was laying in the roadway on Pleasant Drive in the Pleasant View Apartment Complex near apartment building 600. As a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze made a right turn from the apartment building parking lot to Pleasant Drive, the right side of the vehicle struck Riebold.

Eureka woman dies, House Springs man injured in Eureka crash
Sarah A. Webb, 34, of Eureka died in a crash Monday morning, July 15, in the St. Louis County portion of Eureka, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported. At 5:25 a.m., Webb was driving a 2010 Ford Focus and making a left turn from southbound Hwy. 109 onto eastbound I-44 and failed to yield to a northbound 2000 Ford F350 driven by Joseph M. McKelvey, 42, of House Springs, the report said. The Focus struck the side of the F350, traveled off the right side of the road and struck a rock bluff, and the F350 overturned off the road and came to a rest on its roof.

Comperatore leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.

Laura Renee “Laurie” DePung, 58, of Hillsboro died July 18, 2024, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mrs. DePung enjoyed being by the water, especially fishing with her husband. She also enjoyed stargazing, gardening and interior design. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Born Jan. 17, 1966, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Delores (Akers) and Lawrence McKenzie.

Marthasville Fire Chief Sean Johnson described his experience Tuesday in simple terms: “There was water everywhere. Absolutely everywhere.”. Communities just north of the Missouri River bore the brunt of extreme weather early this week as thunderstorms and flash floods pummeled Marthasville, Dutzow and Concord Hill, with a brief tornado tearing through Treloar. Dozens of roads shut down, from small lanes to major highways. The fire chief said there was no precedent for what his team faced.

As homeschooling grows, parents seek options
When Hope Risley opened Verity Schoolhouse in Villa Ridge last fall, she hoped to address a need she had encountered while homeschooling her own kids. For more than two decades, Risley has helped lead a number of home education groups and co-ops for area families like hers. Most of those programs met just once a week, which Risley felt wasn’t enough to promote her kids’ teambuilding and leadership skills. Parents were usually expected to stay and work alongside their child. Risley said she wanted something more structured and independent that still provided the level of educational freedom sought by homeschool parents.
Union Auditorium open following renovations
The Union Memorial Auditorium is open for business, and the city’s Park Advisory Board members got to check out recent improvements after their Thursday meeting. The auditorium was closed for more than $700,000 in renovations from October 2023 until June 1, when rain caused it to reopen sooner than expected for cornhole play at the annual Founders Day celebration.

She was a devoted Pentecostal and found comfort and purpose in her faith. She had a zest for life and was often found enjoying a lively game of poker. She was known for her unique personality, big heart and fun and onery spirit. Born Oct. 30, 1939, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Oparree A. (Taylor) Morgan.

Arkansas trucker seriously injured in crash south of Owensville
An Arkansas over-the-road trucker suffers serious injuries when he wrecks his semi in Gasconade County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Arian Robnett, 46, of Little Rock, was driving on Highway 19 Saturday morning, just south of Owensville, when he traveled off the side of the road into a ditch, struck a culvert, then overturned.
