Biermann wins Missouri Women's Amateur, qualifies for U.S. Women's Amateur
Wildwood’s Brooke Biermann crossed one big item off her bucket list. Biermann won the 94th Missouri Women's Amateur at Hickory Hills Country Club in Springfield. Biermann, a Lafayette graduate who will be a senior this fall at Michigan State, fired a 5-under par 211 (73-68-70) to top the field. She took the lead in the second round with a 4-under par 68 and closed out with a 2-under par 70 to hold on for the win.
Pig races and so much more will be on tap during 4-day county fair
The 78th annual Jefferson County Fair will offer some old favorites, some new events and lots of tasty treats. The four-day fair is set for Thursday through Sunday, July 18-21, at the county Fairgrounds, 10349 Business 21, in Hillsboro. The hours are 5-11 p.m. July 18; 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. July 19; 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. July 20; and 3-9 p.m. July 21.

Riechers Tire & Auto, a fourth-generation family business with two locations in Washington, has been sold. Telle Tire & Auto, another fourth-generation family business based in St. Louis, purchased the business July 1. The sales price was not disclosed. The name of the business will not change; it will continue to operate as Riechers Tire & Auto.
Bethel Hills Community Celebrates "Villa 5" Ribbon-Cutting
On Sunday, June 23, the Bethel Hill Community held its Annual Open House, which included a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of Villa 5. They celebrated with a BBQ dinner, a welcoming ceremony, and Villa 5's dedication, and honored the volunteers and residents in attendance. The Bethel Hills Tone Chimers played two beautiful pieces for the large crowd in attendance. The day concluded with a resident-led service in the chapel.
4 endangered American red wolf pups born at St. Louis Zoo in historic first
The St. Louis Zoo recently announced the birth of four endangered American red wolf pups earlier this year in what is a first for the zoo. The pups were born at the St. Louis Zoo Sears Lehmann Jr. Wildlife Reserve, which is located in Eureka, Missouri – about 20 miles southwest of the zoo's WildCare Park, according to a news release.
GOP candidates make their cases to voters at forum
Candidates for two contested Franklin County Republican primaries talked taxes, transportation and other issues at a Monday evening forum at Union’s Scenic Regional Library. County Commission candidate Ken Cox, Pacific alderman Rafael Madrigal and State Rep. Brad Banderman, R-St. Clair, answered questions from Scenic Regional Library Director Steve Campbell and Assistant Director Megan Maurer during the 75-minute event, which The Missourian co-sponsored.
New residential building permits increase
Following a slight decrease in May from the previous month, Washington issued more than $4.8 million in new residential construction permits in June. That compares to $3.1 million in May and $3.6 million in April. No residential new construction permits were issued in March, although $6.2 million worth were issued in February, and $2.8 million in January.
St. Clair's Brothers on Main getting a TV makeover
In January, Daniel Holmes sent a fateful email. The subject – his bar. Holmes has owned Brothers on Main, serving food and drinks in St. Clair, since March 2021. He started the aptly named business with his brother. While the food service industry runs in his blood, rising costs for supplies and labor have squeezed Holmes to the breaking point. The bar was on life-support. It would not survive without drastic action.

ST CLAIR, Mo. — A restaurant in St. Clair, Missouri, is set to get a makeover thanks to "Bar Rescue." Brothers on Main, a restaurant serving American fare, will be visited by host Jon Taffer who will help give the business a boost. Taffer and his team will help the business make changes and train staff before reopening to debut the changes.
