Amtrak derails near Washington, MO
An Amtrak train hit a downed tree just outside Washington, Missouri, on Monday afternoon, causing the rear axle of the locomotive to derail. No injuries were reported as all of the cars remained on the tracks, but passengers had to be transferred to other train cars and later buses to get to their final destinations.

Note: This story has been updated. Passengers who were stranded for nearly nine hours on an Amtrak train that derailed east of Washington Monday made the best of a bad situation, according to a former Union resident.
Amtrak train derails in Missouri after striking a tree
KANSAS CITY—An Amtrak train struck a tree Monday afternoon near Washington, Missouri. According to a statement from the rail service, "Just before 5p.m. Monday, Amtrak Train 319 made contact with a tree on the tracks east of Washington, Missouri. There were no injuries to the 124 passengers and five crew members aboard the train made up of one locomotive and seven railcars, but rear axle of the locomotive lost contact with the tracks."
