One killed in three-vehicle I-80 crash
DANVILLE — One driver is dead and two others sustained minor injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Montour County on Wednesday afternoon. The 2:27 p.m. crash occurred at mile marker 221, in Liberty Township, just west of Danville, state police at Milton said.

Preparations are underway for West Hazleton Trinity Lutheran Church’s second annual Community Day street event, which will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at North Fifth Street and Jackson Avenue. Summer Concert in the Park Series continues in Beaver Meadows
Beaver Meadows Citizens for Recreation continues their annual Summer Concert in the Park Series from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 21 with the music of North of 40. The concert is free and is located in Memorial Park, Church Street. Refreshments and food will be available for purchase. Cornhole tournaments will be held at every concert. Grier City Union Sunday School yard sale
The Grier City Union Sunday School will have a yard sale Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days from the church at 202 Grier Ave., in Grier City, Rush Township. Sunday School member Linda Light, is shown among the clothing, household items, books, toys and more. Volunteers will also be selling haluski, sloppy joes, turkey barbecue, hot dogs and baked goods. All proceeds will help maintain the historic Sunday school and support programming. Sunday school is held at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays. All are welcome. Trevorton man charged with neglecting dog
SHAMOKIN — A Trevorton man has been charged with neglecting his dog by tethering the canine to his vehicle in a dirt lot without food and water July 10. Glen Alan Shurock Jr., 31, of 789 Trevorton Road, is charged by Patrolman Derek Jenkins with a misdemeanor of neglecting an animal by tethering his medium sized dog to the bumper of his blue Volkswagen hatchback in a dirt lot behind the 400 block of North Shamokin Street near Franklin Street.

Crews begin demolishing former R.M. Palmer building in West Reading
Demolition began Wednesday on a long-vacant building that was once part of the R.M. Palmer Co. chocolate plant in West Reading. Palmer planned to sell the building at 100-118 Franklin St., which the company referred to as Building 5, before the factory blew up on March 24, 2023, said Chad Moyer, borough codes department manager.

The United Way of Greater Hazleton is conducting its "Stuff the Bus" program until July 31. The organization seeks clear book bags, pencils, pens, crayons, markers, colored pencils, glue sticks, scissors, packs of paper, notebooks dry erasers, markers hand sanitizer, folders and erasers for backpacks. Lansford woman heads to court in animal cruelty case
Animal neglect and cruelty charges against a Lansford woman were bound over to Carbon County Court of Common Pleas this week. Dawn James, 29, of Lansford, appeared before District Judge Beth Dodson Wednesday on the charges related to a malnourished female dog and puppies in her yard that she reported as abandoned in April.
