Bern Township police have charged a New Jersey man with perpetrating a lottery scam that cost a 68-year-old township woman nearly $1,000. The victim was tricked by Eugene C. Luke, 63, into sending a cashier’s check for $950 to his home in Wayne, N.J., in mid-December, investigators said. She thought she was prepaying taxes on a purported $450,000 lottery prize after receiving a phone call from Luke informing her that she had won the lottery, investigators said.

SHAMOKIN — A city man has been charged with threatening to kill employees at Oasis Community Recovery Club on Friday afternoon. Nicholas Bartholomew, 31, of 720 Race St., was arraigned at 2:30 p.m. Friday by on-call Magisterial District Judge William Cole, of Mount Carmel, on misdemeanors of terroristic threats and disorderly conduct filed by Patrolman Derek Jenkins.
