Trumpeter Frank Balon to perform in Freeland
Trumpeter Frank Balon will be performing at the Freeland Public Park Pavilion, 500 Front St., Freeland, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 19. Balon will perform a variety of selections including Chuck Mangione's "Children of Sanchez," Al Hirt's "Java," Henry Mancini's "Moon River" and "Peter Gunn," rock classics "Nights in White Satin," "Whiter Shade of Pale and "Bridge Over Troubled Water," Broadway hits "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him," and The Beatles' "Come Together" and "The Long and Winding Road." The concert is free and the Freeland Recreation Board will have the concession stand open.

Carbon County Controller John R. Williams of Lehighton has announced the appointment of a new auditor in his office at the courthouse in Jim Thorpe. He is Leonard J. Alabovitz, a Democrat from Summit Hill, who previously served the county as director of the Tax Claim Bureau and Recorder of Deeds offices. Alabovitz is also the mayor of his hometown.

I just got a request in the mail for a donation to Donald Trump’s campaign, and I sent one. The regular, career, politicians are a fraternity that feeds on the hard work of the taxpayer. They talk, and talk, for years (decades) about taxpayer concerns, such as alternative methods for funding our schools, yet nothing changes because career politicians answer to their special interest supporters, not us, the taxpayer/voter.
Shamokin Crimewatch plans National Night Out, needs donations, volunteers

Felon facing new charges for attempted gun purchase
Dushore, Pa. — A convicted felon allegedly told police he didn’t know his criminal history would prevent him from buying a gun. Justin Pajski, 28, is now facing another felony charge after he lied on a gun application while trying to buy a .357 Ruger from a shop in Dushore last August, police say. Pajski admitted he’d gone to Pigs Tail Guns, 123 Farrells Road, and filled out the ATF background check form. On it, Pajski answered “No” to the question asking if he’d ever been convicted of a felony, according to Trp. Ryan Joyce of state police at Laporte.
