Walker discusses road work, salt purchase
The Walker Township Roadmaster Chad Felty and the township supervisors agreed on some road shoulder grading work to be done at the monthly meeting Thursday. Felty will be grading the shoulders of sections of Brook Lane and Meadow Lane, and possibly some work on parts of Catawissa Road. Supervisors again advised drivers to use caution while the workers are working.

ELYSBURG — The Ralpho Library Bridge Club enjoyed the Rusty Rail. It was an old manufacturing building that two men put in a lot of money to remodel and it is beautiful. The club had a room all to theirselves. After ordering their meals, the club played several hands of bridge and caught up on each other’s activities.

The ESPYS celebrated a landmark year for women’s sports, with Simone Biles, A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark, Dawn Staley and JuJu Watkins among the honorees. Philly native and Temple alum Staley, coach of the national champion South Carolina women’s basketball team, received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance for both her support and fight for equality for women’s sports and for her leadership in the fight against cancer. Her friend, Tennessee standout Nikki McCray-Penson, died of breast cancer and Staley’s sister was diagnosed with leukemia. Staley was motivated by their battles to become an advocate for cancer research.
