Forest Lake: Construction starts on airport taxiway expansion
Construction started Monday at the Forest Lake Airport, where crews are extending the airport’s taxiway and building taxilane extensions. The $721,789 project, scheduled to be completed on Aug. 16, will connect the airport’s south hangar area directly to parallel Taxiway A, said City Administrator Kristina Handt. That will help “ease congestion around the existing singular access point to Taxiway A and Runway 13/31,” she said.
White Bear Lake father charged with murder after newborn's fatal injury
The father of a newborn baby from White Bear Lake who died from head injuries earlier this year has now been charged with second-degree murder. After his 7-week-old son was hospitalized in January, Mark R. Forster, 39, of White Bear Lake told investigators and the mother of his child that he couldn't be sure that he did not accidentally harm the boy while looking after him and blacking out from heavy drinking and marijuana use, according to a criminal complaint.

Robert "Bob" Gelhar
Bob, age 95, of Stillwater, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Boutwells Landing. Bob was born on October 15, 1928 to Lawrence and Antoinette Gelhar. He grew up on the North Hill of Stillwater and graduated from high school in 1946. He married Marilyn McGarry in 1953. After living briefly in Edina, they moved back to Stillwater where they raised their three children. Bob worked at 3M for twenty years where he was a member of the 3M chorus. He continued a career of sorts after retiring from 3M by volunteering at Lakeview hospital and being a driver for what is now Central Bank. His fondest job later in life was working at the Ordway for twenty years until he was 83 years old.

Leon D. Stoeckel, 72, of Isanti, peacefully went home to Heaven on July 6, 2024 after a short yet determined battle with brain cancer. Leon attended school at Zion Lutheran in Crown and served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He earned his Associate degree at Anoka Ramsey Community College while playing on the basketball team, and his Bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University. He was the Real Estate Broker and Owner of Isanti Anoka County Realty.

The Stillwater City Council on Tuesday night will be asked to weigh in on two possible changes to the city charter, including whether to continue to require primary elections.
