ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — Walker Percy Weekend will be returning for its ninth year to St. Francisville on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1.

“The Walker Percy Weekend has been held each June since 2014,” said James Fox-Smith. “This year’s event will be the ninth annual. We had to take two years off for COVID in 2020 and 2021.”

The ninth annual literary festival in St. Francisville celebrates the life and work of novelist Walker Percy. According to the festival’s website , most of Percy’s work “was set in New Orleans and around South Louisiana including the semi-fictious Feliciana, which the author based upon West Feliciana and the other Florida parishes.”

“Literary events are fortified with fine food, live music, craft beer and bourbon, and the traditional, famous, Progressive Front Porch Bourbon Tour,” said Fox-Smith. “The annual festival dedicated to the work of Walker Percy guarantees a unique and thought-provoking weekend in one of Louisiana’s loveliest small towns.”

This year’s festival theme is “The Speculative South.” Walker Percy Weekend invites fans of Southern literature to appreciate Percy’s thoughts and writing.

“Each year, the Walker Percy Weekend brings respected writers and scholars from across the country to speak on the work of acclaimed Louisiana writer, Walker Percy, and other writers working in the Southern intellectual tradition,” said Fox-Smith.

According to the festival’s website, attendees will be able to take part in presentations by famed Percy scholars, lectures, panel discussions, readings and social and culinary events.

“Lectures, panel discussions and moderated book club groups welcome lovers of Southern literature to beautiful, historic spaces around St. Francisville’s historic district,” said Fox-Smith.

Jennifer A. Frey, Brian Giemza, Richard Grant, Olivia Clare Friedman, Brannon Costello and M.O. Walsh are among the speakers and panelists at the event.
