Bay Area’s Bonnie Hayes reflects on nurturing the next generation of pop songwriters
Bonnie Hayes is back. After a decade as chair of the songwriting department at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, the tunesmith, who struck songwriting gold with the hits “Have a Heart” and “Love Letter” for Bonnie Raitt, has returned to Marin with the satisfaction of knowing that she helped nurture some of the best of the next generation of pop music songwriters.

EDITOR: Of course, the city of Santa Rosa OK’d the demolishing of the Summerfield Cinema (“An unhappy ending,” July 20). It seems the city is removing so many places of wonderful memories for its people. This is no longer a town. It is a city. This time leaving people without what may be their only enjoyment that is easy to get to. How many “fitness centers,” i.e., gyms, have opened and closed in the past few years? Is it time for a completely new city council?

Jurors find Bay Area man guilty of killing missing girlfriend
A Solano County Superior Court jury on Thursday found a 45-year-old Fairfield man guilty of the first-degree murder of his girlfriend last year in Fairfield. Trial of Foster Abuse Case in Rohnert Park Coming to a Close
Closing arguments are underway in the trial of a man accused of raping and torturing three foster children at his home in Rohnert Park. Jose Centeno, who was arrested nearly four years ago, has been on trial since last month. On Tuesday, Sonoma County Deputy District Attorney Ashley Hendon showed the jury photos of two of the children in torn clothes, with bruises on their bodies. The third child disappeared in 2012, when she was ten-years-old. Centeno is facing a long list of charges, including three counts each of torture and kidnapping for ransom. He is also facing eight charges in connection with the alleged rape and sexual abuse of the children.
Vintage Wine Estates of Santa Rosa Files for Bankruptcy
Vintage Wine Estates Inc. is filing for bankruptcy. The North Bay Business Journal reports that the Santa Rosa based producer has filed for Chapter 11 reorganization to “establish a fair, structured process for VWE to address outstanding debt obligations while the business pursues the sale of its assets.” They are looking to sell all or nearly all of their assets which include Ace Cider and wine brands B.R. Cohn, Girard, Clos Pegase and Viansa. Vintage recently sold Cosentino Winery of Napa Valley to Gene Wines LLC on Friday for $10.5 million. At of the end of March, Vintage had about $475-million dollars in assets and $400-million in liabilities.
