Residents or visitors in the city of St. Helens have enjoyed seeing US flags displayed on patriotic national holidays for many years. This past Independence Day was no exception as the Stars & Stripes proudly waved in the warm breezes on July 4th.

On seven national holidays each year, the St. Helens Lions Club of Lions International faithfully places over 230 flags along the primary streets of St. Helens. Teams put the flags out early in the morning and remove them by evening. The Lions Club ensures that the flags are in good repair and carefully stores them between holidays.

This flag service is made possible by the generous donations of businesses located along the flag routes. Since Lions is a non-profit service organization, these donations are used to provide this flag service. The St. Helens Lions Club appreciates the businesses that donate. Community members are encouraged to look for businesses that display the special Lions Flag decals on their doors or windows. Be sure to thank these businesses for their support of this community flag service.

The St. Helens Lions Club provides the flag service on these seven patriotic national holidays: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day or Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veteran’s Day.
