Overpass work to detour Long Beach Road
One of the first significant road closures in the N.C. Highway 211 widening project is just around the corner as work continues to remain on schedule. According to Josh Pratt, a resident engineer with the N.C. Department of Transportation, the project is 46% complete and the extensive utility work is approximately 85% finished. Grading work on what will be the future westbound lane of 211 has been done and Pratt said paving of the two-lane road started last week.

Residents get tour of BSL's new fire, rescue station
Boiling Spring Lakes showed off its new 12,200-square-foot fire and rescue station with an open house for the community on Saturday. The station officially opened earlier this year on N.C. 87 (3059 George II Highway) next to Dollar General. With bunk rooms and living quarters available for the fire and rescue staff, the city can now house someone at the station 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to improve response times, said Chief Theresa Tickle.
