Wilmington Municipal Golf Course closed until July 20
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilmington Municipal Golf Course is closed from now until it reopens on Saturday, July 20, per the city. “Our landscaping crews will perform routine aeration and verticutting on the tees, fairways, and greens to keep the course in top condition throughout the year. We apologize for the inconvenience,” a city announcement states.
House move set for July 17 on Oak Island
OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – The Town of Oak Island announced that a house move is set for Wednesday, July 17, at 10 a.m. from Ocean Drive to NE 10th Street. “During this time, traffic will be HEAVILY impacted along ALL of E Oak Island Drive, particularly from Sellers Street to NE 9th Street. Officers will direct traffic as the home is moved; however travel along E Oak Island Drive should be avoided during this time if possible. If traveling this area, please be patient, follow the directions of officers, and DO NOT SPEED when using side streets as detours,” a town announcement states.

North Carolina receives $240 million for Cape Fear Bridge
A $242 million grant to replace the Cape Fear Bridge in Wilmington, N.C., has been awarded through the Biden Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, a 3,000-foot-long steel vertical-lift bridge that carries U.S. Highway 17, U.S. Highway 76 and U.S. Highway 421 over the Cape Fear River and connects Brunswick and New Hanover counties, was built in 1969.
Once Slated For Apartments, Site Off Market Street Could Get 60 Townhomes
Just south of Market Street, a Raleigh-based developer plans to build 60 new townhomes on a site once slated for more than 190 apartments. The shift in plans for the roughly 10-acre site at 120 Switchyard Road stems from changes in the real estate market, said Joe Cebina, managing director with developer TBM Partners. The market has seen more demand for townhomes, a housing type that can sometimes be more attainable for today’s buyers, Cebina said.
