First Alert Forecast: another Heat Advisory on Monday for southeast NC
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - As expected, moderate to heavy showers came in more frequent waves from Thursday to Saturday. Wilmington officially recorded 3.02 inches of rain in this stretch; tallies were somewhat variable and all significant across the Cape Fear Region. We’ll see what drought relief these rains may have brought when NOAA’s report comes out this Thursday.

One teenager dead in Ocean Isle Beach after being caught in potential rip current
OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — One teenager in Ocean Isle Beach is dead after drowning in a potential rip current. According to Ocean Isle Beach Mayor Debbie Smith, three teenagers were caught in a potential rip current between 12:30 and 1pm Sunday afternoon. Two of the teenagers were safely rescued, but first responders were unable to save the third teenager. The three teenagers were on a chaperoned day trip to the beach.

City Looks To Commercial Firms To Market, Sell Surplus Property
Wilmington leaders will consider contracts with four commercial real estate firms on Tuesday to help sell off the city's surplus properties. The Wilmington City Council will consider “on-call contracts” with the real estate companies, which range from locally-based brokers to global firms, at its Tuesday meeting. Ahead of the city’s $68 million purchase of the former Thermo Fisher Scientific campus last summer, city officials declared nine city-owned office buildings and other properties as surplus with hopes of selling them to offset the cost of the new campus.

Volunteers at Lifepoint Church prepare thousands of meals for those in need
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A local church is teaming up with a national nonprofit to provide food for those in need. Lifepoint Church teamed up with Feed the Hunger to pack more than 25,000 meal kits. More than 200 people showed up to help pack the meals that will be sent to South Africa as part of Feed the Hunger’s ministry outreach.
