WILMINGTON — Marsha Coley Watts, 77, of Wilmington died July 11th at her home under the care of Hospice. Marsha was the daughter of the late Ralph G and Virginia A Coley. On June 5, 2024 her loving husband of 54 years, Billy LeGran Watts, passed away; she missed him greatly and quite simply, she died of a broken heart. Because of her strong faith, her broken heart and tiny weak body have been fully restored and she is back with her dear Billy where they will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
Feds award $242M grant to fund CF Memorial Bridge replacement
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A major artery connecting motorists entering Wilmington from across the state has received a major boost from the federal department of transportation. The Biden administration announced a $242 million grant — the most allowed under its Bridge Investment Program, part of Biden’s Infrastructure Law — has been awarded to replace the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. The replacement has been estimated to cost around $485 million for a 135-foot fixed overpass along the Cape Fear River. It would be able to accommodate ships and built with an additional two lanes.

North Carolina will receive $242 million from the federal government to help replace the aging Cape Fear Memorial Bridge in Wilmington. The money comes from the big infrastructure bill Congress passed in late 2021. The grant, from the U.S. Department of Transportation, was announced Friday by Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper and one of North Carolina’s Republican U.S. senators, Thom Tillis, who voted for the bill.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - Wrightsville Beach Police Chief David Squires was terminated from his position as of Wednesday, according to Mayor Darryl Mills.
