Ask a Journalist: Questions about Cape Fear Regional Special Teams and SWAT
Q: What is the Cape Fear Regional Special Teams? Who’s involved, what do they do, who’s in charge — and how do they relate to SWAT?. A: Cape Fear Regional Special Teams is a regional collaboration between a host of law enforcement agencies, led by the Wilmington Police Department. They’re dispatched when agencies need more personnel — but they also host a collaborative SWAT team. In general, SWAT is rarely dispatched, but when they are it’s for high-risk situations. WHQR sat down with several WPD officers to get a better sense of how the Special Teams and SWAT work and the evolving challenges they face.

UNCW installs Permeable Pavement on parts of its campus
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Some new pavement at UNCW is hoping to do more than just improve parking at the university. Permeable Pavement ,which allows water to run through it, will soon replace several sections of conventional asphalt in UNCW’s Randall Parking Lot. This project is one of many looking to reduce the volume of polluted storm water runoff in the Bradley and Hewlett’s Creek watersheds. The North Carolina Coastal Federation, UNCW and the City of Wilmington are working with contractors on the project. UNCW Associate Professor Jennifer Biddle said collaboration is key for more projects like this in the future.

Two Wilmington-area towns are among the 10 richest areas in North Carolina, according to an analysis by Forbes. Using 2022 U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey five-year estimates, Forbes considered more than 690 cities in North Carolina to identify the 50 wealthiest in the state.
