Composting Education Site Open to the Public at New Hanover County, NC Recycling and Solid Waste
To help reduce the amount of material being sent to the landfill, New Hanover County Recycling and Solid Waste has opened an outdoor facility where the public can learn how to compost at home. Located at Recycling and Solid Waste offices (3002 US Hwy 421 N, Wilmington), this newly installed educational site is designed to show best practices when using organic waste to create material that can be used as nourishment for gardens and other outdoor plants.
DMF asks anglers to donate red snapper carcasses
Recreational fishermen can donate to science the carcasses of red snappers that they catch during the July 12 mini-season. The season is only 24-hour period, opening at 12:01 a.m. and closing at 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 12. Anglers may keep one fish per person per day. There will be no minimum or maximum size limit. Captain and crew on for-hire vessels may retain the recreational bag limit.

OKI splashpad remains closed until further notice
OAK ISLAND — A splash pad scheduled to undergo repair work this week and reopen Wednesday will remain shuttered for now. The Town of Oak Island found additional repair work was needed on the pump motor. A guaranteed repair estimate is not currently available, though officials anticipate a Friday, July 12, opening. The public will be notified once repairs have been made.
