‘It was the perfect dorm’: UNCW alumni speak on demolition of Galloway Hall
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - Galloway Hall on the campus of UNCW is being torn down Thursday, July 11. According to the university, Galloway Hall was built in 1970 and opened for students in 1971. The building was originally named Dorm ‘71. The name changed a few years later in honor of Edmund Galloway, a student who died in a bicycle accident in 1974.

Wrightsville Beach acting Town Manager fires Police Chief
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – Wrightsville Beach Police Chief David Squires was terminated from his position as of Wednesday, according to Mayor Darryl Mills. According to Mayor Mills, the acting Town Manager, Tony Wilson, sat down with Squires on Wednesday and after a discussion, Wilson terminated Squires effective immediately. Two Wilmington-area towns are among the 10 richest areas in North Carolina, according to an analysis by Forbes. Using 2022 U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey five-year estimates, Forbes considered more than 690 cities in North Carolina to identify the 50 wealthiest in the state. The analysis was based on median household income, average household income, median home value and median property taxes paid.
ACCESS of Wilmington holds basketball event with the Wilmington Fire Department
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Some indoor basketball took place in Wilmington to help break down some barriers. ACCESS of Wilmington is a nonprofit that helps to eliminate barriers to health and wellness through sports. On Thursday, some members of the Wilmington Fire Department shot hoops at Grace United Methodist Church with some of the children involved in the program.
