OKI splashpad remains closed until further notice
OAK ISLAND — A splash pad scheduled to undergo repair work this week and reopen Wednesday will remain shuttered for now. The Town of Oak Island found additional repair work was needed on the pump motor. A guaranteed repair estimate is not currently available, though officials anticipate a Friday, July 12, opening. The public will be notified once repairs have been made.

Wilmington police share details on recent juvenile firearm cases
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department announced various details on its work to fight juvenile gun crime charges on July 9. “Since January 1, 2024 the WPD has seized more than 60 guns from juvenile suspects and offenders. During the month of June alone, 12 firearms were seized from children. The agency wants to remind the community that possession of a firearm by a minor is a criminal offense. We are urging parents or guardians to please keep weapons secure, locked up, and away from children. We also want to encourage the community to remain vigilant when leaving your vehicle, ensuring that your vehicle doors are always locked,” a WPD announcement states.

Victim of fatal Fourth of July stabbing in Carolina Beach identified
CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - A Carolina Beach man was killed in a Fourth of July stabbing on Spencer-Farlow Drive, according to an update from the town’s police department. Per the Carolina Beach Police Department, units arrived to the scene at approximately 7: 40 a.m., where 28-year-old Dakota Ryan Capes was found dead.
Guns, Drugs Net 21 Years in Federal Case
A federal judge has sentenced a Bolton man to 252 months – 21 years – in prison. Charles Elliot Brown, 30, pled guilty in U.S. District Court in Wilmington to possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He was sentenced June 28, according to a press release form the sheriff’s office.
