Richard M. LaVista of St. Augustine, Florida, and Formerly of Westhampton Beach, Dies July 14
Richard M. LaVista of St Augustine, Florida, and formerly of Westhampton Beach, died on July 14 at home, surrounded by family. He was 76. He was born and raised in Westhampton Beach. A graduate of Westhampton Beach High School, he attended Wheeling College in West Virginia, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Long Island University. He moved to Florida in the early 1970s. Through his marriage to Ann Marie, he gained two children, Heather and Alex, whom he loved dearly and was proud to raise as his own. They lived in Melbourne Beach, Florida, until 2008, when the couple relocated to St. Augustine.

BRIDGEPORT — A city woman staged a June swatting incident that led to a rapid response by the Police Department's Emergency Service Unit, police said in a post on Facebook. Dorothy Smith, 34, is accused of calling 911 in the early morning hours of June 27, pretending to be another woman, to say her family was being held hostage at gunpoint by her boyfriend at a house on Highland Avenue, according to the post.
Fairfield open space expansion at Westway widens public access with walking trail, more parking
FAIRFIELD — What was once an unkempt patch of vines and invasive plants will soon be part of a public display of Southport's nature. Fairfield is about to acquire about two acres of land on Westway Road, which would roughly double the size of its open space in the Sasco Creek Marsh area and create more room for public access, said Tim Bishop, Fairfield's conservation director.
Bridgeport man on parole accused of selling fentanyl, cocaine, Stamford police say
STAMFORD — A Bridgeport man was charged Wednesday in an investigation into fentanyl and cocaine sales throughout Fairfield County, according to Stamford police. The investigation, conducted by Stamford Police Department’s Narcotics & Organized Crime Unit and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport Office, led to an arrest warrant charging 42-year-old Edwin Abrams with three counts of sale of narcotics, Lt.
