Teen facing attempted murder charge for deadly Beecher shootout
MT. MORRIS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) - An 18-year-old man is facing three charges for the deadly shootout involving a group of teens in the Beecher area last month. Nancy J. Scales, 73 of Tinley Park, passed away on July 12, 2024, after a courageous 28-month fight with cancer at Sunrise Assisted Living in Willowbrook. Born in 1950 in Ottawa to William J. and Drue Redshaw Scales, Nancy graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in teaching and spent several years working with special needs children before going on to work in retail at Bergner's and Carson Pirie Scott. She was a member of the Morrison Music Theater Association, participating as a cast member and costume maker; an active choir member in the Ottawa Congregational Church; and a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Valparaiso is looking to help a developer attract more industry to the city. The owner of Indiana Beverage plans to build a second spec building on its property off of State Road 49. The 115,000-square-foot "flex building" would be able to house anywhere from one to nine tenants, ranging from offices to manufacturing.
