Teen Charged In Beecher Shooutout
An 18-year-old suspect in a shootout in Beecher on June 25 was arrainged this week. Police in the Genesee County community responded to a home on Hilton Lane after an SUV parked in front, with three teens getting out and assaulting someone in the yard. Gunfire erupted between an occupant of the SUV and someone else nearby. 17-year-old Khamani Lindsey was killed while another 17-year-old was critically injured.
Valpo Council grants tax abatement for Indiana Beverage owner's new spec building
Valparaiso is looking to help a developer attract more industry to the city. The owner of Indiana Beverage plans to build a second spec building on its property off of State Road 49. The 115,000-square-foot "flex building" would be able to house anywhere from one to nine tenants, ranging from offices to manufacturing.
Survivor Series: John Dempsey
John Dempsey, a resident of Munster, Indiana, began his long battle with cancer at the age of 52-years-old. Dempsey had no idea that receiving a colonoscopy as a preventative measure would begin a six-year journey with colorectal cancer. Dempsey underwent treatment for his cancer three separate times, most recently receiving intensive treatment from Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Despite dealing with a diagnosis that would turn his life upside down, Dempsey maintained a sense of humor and a hopeful outlook which he attributes to his success with treatment.
Colliers Brokers Sale of 72-Acre Industrial Land Site in University Park, Illinois
UNIVERSITY PARK, ILL. — Colliers has brokered the sale of a 72-acre industrial land site in the southern Chicago suburb of University Park. A private investor sold the land to Clarius Partners for an undisclosed price. The planned development will be primed for large logistics operations and include a 970,123-square-foot warehouse. The project will feature a 40-foot ceiling height, up to 475 trailer stalls, 162 docks and convenient access to I-57. Jim Estus and David Bercu of Colliers brokered the transaction. Colliers is marketing the project for lease.
School of Architecture partners with city of Gary on downtown revitalization plan
On Monday (July 22), the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture’s Housing and Community Regeneration Initiative and the city of Gary, Indiana, launched the first phase of a downtown revitalization project. City officials highlighted Gary’s rich history and expressed their enthusiasm for this promising new partnership with Notre Dame.

Indiana Interstate Shooting Arrest: Chicago Man Charged with Attempted Murder
Lake County, IN – A Chicago man has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident on Interstate 80/94 in Hammond. Darrell A. Graham, 35, was apprehended in the 7000 block of Birch Ave. in Hammond without incident. Graham is being held at the Lake County Jail, facing multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder.
