Whitman Hospital & Medical Clinics In Colfax Ranks Among Nation’s Best For Social Responsibility
Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics in Colfax has been ranked as one of the most socially responsible hospitals in the country. The recognition is from the Lown Institute’s Equity, Value and Outcomes annual survey. WHMC earned “A” grades and finished in the top 5% achieving honor roll status. The hospital in Colfax ranked 1st out of 28 critical access hospitals in Washington and 3rd nationally out of 806 facilities. The index uses over 50 measures of health equity and value of care along with patient outcomes. The ranking is done independently as hospitals do not apply for the survey.

Betz Road at the intersection of SR 904 was rebuilt more than 20 years ago and is in need of repair. In order to minimize interference with daytime traffic and minimize the construction duration, it will be necessary to perform this work at night. COLFAX, WA - Fire crews from Whitman County are actively managing a fire on SR 26 near Milepost 121, west of Colfax, which originated from a single firework in a dry brush field. The blaze quickly spread from the field to a nearby structure, which became fully engulfed in flames.
Planned Electric Outage for Repairs - University LN Area
The Cheney Light Department will be replacing the faulted underground primary wire in the area of Willowwood Apartments, College Hill Apartments, and surrounding area with a new primary wire to ensure reliable electric service. Work will begin on Tuesday, July 9 at 8:00 p.m. and power will be off through the night until approximately 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Firefighters battle 3-acre brush fire east of Cheney
CHENEY, Wash. – Firefighters are currently tackling a three-acre brush fire east of Cheney. The incident is located at South Cheney-Spangle Road and West Jennings Road, according to Spokane County Fire District 3. The fire, though slow-moving, has already consumed approximately half an acre and now has spread to three acres. Initially, firefighters faced challenges accessing the site.

A fireworks caused blaze destroyed a building near LaCrosse on Thursday. The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office reports on Facebook that Volunteer Firefighters battled the blaze on State Route 26 near milepost 121. A firework sparked a field fire which spread to a structure. Deputies didn’t specify what type of structure was burned.

Cyclists climb Steptoe Butte
ROSALIA - On Saturday, June 29, over a dozen cyclist gathered at Rosalia City Park to make their annual trip up the Steptoe Butte. The group, Spokane Bike Club, was founded in 1973 and has been making the annual excursion to the butte since 1992, as a training ride to prepare for longer distances. While the group had a mixed range of ages for the cyclist, several had done this ride many times.
